That makes it a decent way to trace exactly where spam is coming from. Sign up for something sketchy using one very specific dot pattern, and if junk mail starts arriving addressed to that exact variant months later, you know precisely who sold or leaked it.

Where the comparison to temp mail breaks down

It's easy to mix this up with disposable email, because both feel like "generating new addresses on demand." The difference matters more than it looks: every dot variant still lands in your one real, permanent Gmail account. Nothing expires, nothing gets separated out, and the trick itself is public knowledge, so anyone who figures out the pattern (it's not exactly hidden) can work out your actual address underneath it. It also does nothing to reduce the volume of spam hitting your inbox; it just helps you identify the source after the fact.
